YKS has two sessions: TYT, which measures basic proficiency, and AYT, which measures subject knowledge. Both mean a wide syllabus and a long preparation period. YKS has two sessions that measure different things. Every candidate sits TYT: Turkish, basic mathematics, social sciences and natural sciences, testing basic proficiency. AYT varies by the field a candidate has chosen — quantitative, equal-weight, verbal or language — and asks for deeper knowledge of that field’s subjects. That structure splits preparation in two: broad but shallow for TYT, narrow but deep for AYT.
